I married Jim Winstead in 1968. He went to Northeast and played football there. I met him through my second fiancé. We all worked at Linda Hall Library.

He was stationed at Fort Bragg where we were married. We traveled in the service to Bad Kisegan, Germany. Later we returned to KC, Mo. I finished college and began teaching in 1970 until 2013 when I retired. During my career I received a Masters in Special Education from KU and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Psychology from Loyola. I taught many different types of students during my career in public education. I taught regular education, gifted education, and special education. I was also an assistant principal as well as a science trainer for the district.

In addition, I taught at Harper College and Judson University in Chicago for over 20 years. I worked with under grads and master level students.

In 1985, my husbands job caused us to relocate in the Chicago area. We have lived here ever since. My daughter met her husband at college and he is from Bogota, Columbia. They have 1 son and live in Florida. My son married three years ago and has one son. He lives in the Chicago area. My husband passed away from a heart attack in 2006. He is missed by all of us very much.

Since I retired, I have enjoyed doing volunteer work. I am a CASA for Kane County Court for an abused child. I work at the Food Pantry and tutor a young man in English through the program, Project Literacy. I usher at a rep theater, am in a book club, tap dance, do greeting card making, and watch my grandson once a week. I also like to travel. I have been to 48 of the 50 states. Only New Jersey and Alaska remain. I hope to travel to these soon. I also garden as much as possible, and walk my dogs daily.

School Story

I loved the teachers and students that I met at Southwest. It was a happy time in my life. There was so much drama going on everyday at school, that I tried never to be absent. It was like a soap opera at times and too good to miss. I still keep in touch with a few of my good friends and think fondly back to the days I spent with them in high school.

Sidney was a friend of mine at Bingham. She was a very nice person and I am happy she was able to become a doctor. I am sorry she wasn't able to live longer, but I hope she didn't suffer since she seemed to have died so unexpectedly.

Hi Donna, I have enjoyed the website as well and loved catching up with people. I am sorry your breast cancer reoccurred. It is always a worry once you have it. I am a 12 year survivor. I am glad you are doing better, traveling, and enjoying your life. I too will not be going, but that was because I injured my back in a silly accident. To avoid surgery, I am having intense PT and will be getting cortisone shots. I was really looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hi Sharon, I remember you from Middle School. If I am correct your father was a rabbi and you were my first friend to have a father who served as a rabbi. You were very patient in your explanations of what this entailed for him.

I too taught was an educator and spent many years teaching children in poverty and children with disabilities. Thank you for your continuing service with them especially since my older grandson is on the autism spectrum.

My family loved camping as well and camped from coast to coast. We loved tent camping. I have not camped since my husband passed away but still have the equipment and will be passing it on to my children.

I too felt badly about Miss McCloud. She was so frail and old and really struggled with her classes. Teaching seemed to be her life as well as her travels to France. I think when we are young we don't always have empathy for people who are older. I did participate in many of the pranks but always a part of me felt wrong about this.

Enjoy the reunion. Cindi Holmgren/Winstead

Hi Robert,
Thanks to you and all the committee for the hard work you have done to make this reunion possible. I will not be able to attend as I am still receiving therapy for my severe back injury I suffered in June. Traveling of any sort is out for me. I hope the reunion is a wonderful success.

I have enjoyed the website and being able to catch up on so many people. You do have the same great smile you had when we were in school together. Have fun at the reunion, Cindi Holmgren/Winstead

Hi Everyone,
My thanks to the reunion committee for all the hard work they have done to set up this last reunion. I have really enjoyed this website. Being able to see all the many experiences and achievements my former classmates have had, has been terrific. I am sorry for the classmates we have lost, especially for those who died before they had a chance to live their lives as long as we have.

Life is beautiful and full of surprises. None of us really knew what waited ahead for us when we graduated from high school. We all left school and scattered in many different directions. Our country as we knew it growing up, was in the process of making many dramatic changes. We were part of those changes. For this I am very proud. We were all in some way effected by that time and many of our classmates served in the armed forces. I worried about many of my friends who served as well as my husband.

I wish everyone the best with the rest of their life. This is our time to enjoy friends and family and reflect on our many life experiences.

Due to a severe back injury I suffered in June, I will not be traveling to KC to be at the reunion. I will miss seeing everyone and especially my friends Linda Roberts and Christy Curts. I have been lucky to have been able to stay in touch with them.

Have fun. Love and best wishes for many more adventures to come, Cindi Holmgren/Winstead

Have a Happy birthday Steve. I remember you not just from HS, but from grade school, and Junior High. Cindi Holmgren/Winstead

Hi Susan, I ended up actually working for your older brother at Pierson Junior High School. He was a great principal and I enjoyed my time at that school. They switched principals at all schools and he ended up at the rival school. Tell him hi! from Cindi Winstead. I hope he is doing well and enjoying his retirement.

Jennifer and Carlos' wedding. I accidently added this picture when looking for one of myself and my husband at this event in 2004. I gave up on finding the picture of us.
